The Lab LA is our weekly post-work party where we bring you the best American and international DJs live from the heart of Hollywood. This session we hosted the dank trap sounds of Chicago’s Flosstradamus.

For the last decade J2K and Autobot, aka Flosstradamus, have been a consummate force in the US bass scene. They’ve become notorious for their thundering bass sounds and turnt up party vibes, and are considered to be amongst the earliest adopters of the hip-hop and electronic crossover sounds that have been sweeping the US for a while. They’ve racked up massive releases on Fool’s Gold Records, Ultra and Mad Decent, and have headlined stacks of major festivals across the United States. The boys have also just begun their FLOSSVEGAS Residency at Surrender and Encore Beach in Las Vegas, and they’ll be heading off there to throw down after they smash the Lab LA.

For this installment of the Mixmag Lab series we were thrilled to welcome the unmistakable duo, Simian Mobile Disco, our May 2012 cover stars, who were joined by the exciting South London Ordnance.

James Ford and Jas Shaw, aka Simian Mobile Disco, have been tearing up dance floors across the world for many years. Their combination of techno and electronica has resulted in them becoming one of the most well respected electronic duos in the past decade.

This year Simian Mobile Disco will release their first live album since 2005. Simply titled ‘Live’, this original collection of live recordings will feature some of their most infamous tracks, combining a wide selection of SMD releases, past and present. The album will be released through their own Delicacies label and distributed through the seminal German electronic label Kompakt. More information on the release right here.

South London Ordnance

Since delivering his first full EP in 2012 ‘Sanctuary / Roofy’ South London Ordance has gone from strength to strength through further releases on imprints such as Teal and Well Rounded Records which gained support from acts such as: Jamie XX, Scuba and Claude Vonstroke. South London Ordnance’s next release is due out in March and will be out in Scuba’s Hotflush.

Lab LA is our weekly post-work party where we stream the best live American and International DJs right from the heart of Hollywood. For this Lab, we kicked off the holidays in style with a Detroit Love takeover featuring legends Carl Craig and Stacey Pullen.

Techno pioneer Carl Craig is the force behind Detroit Love, a project honouring his home city and spreading Detroit techno all over the world. Its launch at ADE 2014 featured Motor City natives Moodymann and Recloose, and for this special takeover in the Lab LA Craig will be joined by fellow Detroit don Stacey Pullen.

One of the most respected and consistent dance music producers of all time, Carl Craig has managed to blend various genres of music into his own style and commands massive respect from the underground. His record label Planet E Communications has put out music from other key players such as Kevin Saunderson, Moodymann and Kenny Larkin – and in 2000 he helped launch the Movement Electronic Music Festival.

Stacey Pullen was an integral part of the second wave of Detroit’s electronic music boom. He got his start under the legends Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins – after decades of making quality tunes he continues to tour and release exciting, influential music. He has seen a massive year with his Blackflag imprint and in early 2015 he’s due to release his first EP in almost two years.
